A steep hillside in West Seattle is transformed into a new pocket neighborhood with five new single family homes. A common access drive terminates in a shared courtyard. The garages are covered with green roofs which reinforce the open space concept, provide useful open space, and help detain storm runoff and improve water quality.

A pair of houses laid into a steep hillside. The building section steps up the hill until it reaches a point where the main floor can be connected to a terraced yard in the hillside. Each kitchen features a fold/slide door that opens the interior onto a garden pation that is sheltered with a steel trellis and a clear greenhouse roof.

A three townhouse unit in Judkin's Park.The view side unit is designed as a custom home for the owner, while the streetside property contains two small homes for sale on the open market. A ski cabin near Crystal Mountain. A heavy timber framed roof is supported on double columns that extend outside the exterior skin of the cabin. The signature element of the cabin is an open bridge that connects a freestanding stair to the sleeping loft. Unique interior finishes include recycled fir columns and flooring, recycled rubber flooring, and a custom finished oriented strand board paneling in the bathrooms and bedrooms.

A guest house for a North Cascades vacation home. A unique hybrid of solid log and conventional stud frame construction was developed to allow construction of a house with a log cabin feel along with a free plan that created a courtyard in the rear facing the woods.

An extensive remodel of a 1940's residence including a new home theater; a new freestanding pavilion with an indoor spa and exercise room; a new underground storage area; new landscape and paving for the entire grounds. The owners call the pavilion their "vacation cabin next door."
WILJANEN CABIN. Lake Wenatchee, WA 2003. A new vacation cabin on the shore of Lake Wenatchee. The cabin is designed to maximize views of the lake with roof lines to capture the prevailing winds for natural cooling in the summer, and to safely shed nine feet of annual snowfall.

A prototype schematic design for a kai-ten sushi restaurant chain. The restaurant features a miniaturized conveyor system, which delivers a parade of sushi offerings to the booths and bar seating that surround the open kitchen. The restaurant is designed around the company ethos of environmental stewardship, featuring interior finishes including counters and cabinets made of laminated bamboo grass, and prep surfaces made from Richlite, a surfacing made from recycled cellulose fiber and food grade resins.

Renovation of an 1920's masonry building housing an existing SRO Hotel and soup kitchen. The scope of renovations included rehabilitation of the building parapets and decorative cornices; new accessible bathrooms; and new accessible kitchens.

Laboratory planning studies to assist the facilities department in determining the most efficient utilization of their existing labs, and how to modify them most effectively to provide for the changing needs of their research staff.

A substantial alteration of an existing 1950's auto repair garage to office space for a wetlands consulting and design firm. As part of the work, all major systems in the building were replaced, including a seismic retrofit to strengthen the portions of the building built of un-reinforced masonry. A new stair was cut into the interior of the building to connect the two levels of office space and bring natural light into the center of the building. Offices and primary workstations are housed upstairs to keep all members of the design staff together, while the high bay space below is used for shared functions such as conference areas, library, and lab/testing stations.

UWB/CCC JOINT CAMPUS. Bothell, WA 1997-2000.
Project Architect for the design and construction of a joint campus for two new educational institutions. Project scope ranged from development of a master plan for the campus through design and construction of several classroom buildings, a library, parking garages, and a central plant. Responsibilities included design of the University of Washington's facility, schematic design of the parking structures and physical plant, technical supervision over the project as a whole, and a two year tenure on-site coordinating the construction effort with the General Contractor.
SAFECO FIELD. Seattle, WA 1996-1998
Member of the core team of (8) architects responsible for site selection, planning, design and construction of a new stadium for the Seattle Mariners. Responsibilities focused on layout and design of the major public spaces, and design and detailing of the masonry and corrugated metal exterior cladding.

Schematic Design for a new in-terminal hotel for Denver International Airport. Project included preparation of design studies for presentation to the Denver City Council and the DIA board of trustees.
